Youthforia Receives Backlash Over Dark Foundation




LET'S START AT THE BEGINNING


A few months ago beauty Influencer Golloria revealed to her followers that the darkest shade Youthforia offered happened to be multiple shades lighter than her skin tone highlighting the lack of brand Inclusivity In the beauty world. The brand received major backlash when the video went viral with over 2 million views. Many of the brands followers cared to weigh In on the lack of brand Inclusivity but that they had other products they loved. Rather, they would love to see them create products catered to their skin complexion. Now, several months later, the Influencer Is back with another review of their updated complexion scale as she tries out their darkest complexion and she has alot to say.


Golloria took to social media to test out the new and approved formula and to her frustration the product was so dark that she compared it to black face paint. The backlash against Youthforia stems from concerns over the brand's lack of inclusivity and sensitivity towards people of color. Many consumers have voiced their disappointment and frustration, pointing out that a foundation shade described as "black like black paint" perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces colorism within the beauty industry. Additionally, critics argue that such language disregards the diverse range of skin tones within the black community and fails to provide adequate representation for darker-skinned individuals.





HOW CANCEL CULTURE IS AFFECTING BRANDS


Cancel culture has emerged as a potent force in today's society, with brands increasingly finding themselves in the crosshairs of public scrutiny. Social media platforms serve as the battlegrounds where controversies erupt and companies face swift repercussions for their perceived missteps. From insensitive advertising campaigns to allegations of misconduct by company leaders, no brand seems immune to the possibility of being "canceled." We may argue that cancel culture can sometimes become overly reactionary, leading to the unjustified vilification of individuals or organizations without due process. All in all, this is yet again another brand showcasing a lack there of wether it be diversity, awareness or common sense, we will continue to experience this with the constant shifting of digital media culture.
